AngstromPower Inc. is a Vancouver-based company founded in 2001 to develop and commercialize micro-structured fuel cells based on a novel fuel cell architecture. This can be used to power portables devices like cell phones. It’s made possible thanks to the unique fuel cell architecture, combined with innovative concepts for hydrogen fuel and integrated into passive Micro Hydrogen systems. This enables high energy density in small form factors. AngstromPower has successfully built prototype devices and is currently in the process of developing products for industrial and consumer markets. The family of products includes end-user devices as well as products for refuelling. The refuelling can either be portable, using cartridges, or fixed, using existing hydrogen infrastructures. To-date Angstrom has 14 patents issued and over 50 applications pending, representing a deep intellectual property base.

Established in 2008, the Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation is a Burnaby, BC-based joint-venture private company between Daimler AG (50.1 per cent), Ford Motor Company (30 per cent) and Ballard Power Systems (19.9 per cent ownership and a financial investor), developing next generation technology for zero-emission automobiles. Following a successful 10-year Alliance, Ballard sold its automotive fuel cell assets to Daimler and Ford in 2008. These assets are now resident in AFCC , which is now for the research, product development, and a successful product launch of reliable and high-performance fuel cell stacks.
